1 Measuring for New Cabinet Doors

The first step to ordering your replacement doors is to measure your doors. It is important to be as precise as possible when measuring your doors so that everything will be able to properly open and close. If you are wanting your new doors to be the same size as your current doors, then you can just measure them from outside edge to outside edge.

If you are changing the look of your cabinet doors, then you will likely need to do some math. First, measure the cabinet box opening that you will be covering. Then, you will need to decide if you want to have a partial overlay, full overlay, or inset cabinet doors. As you might have guessed, full overlay doors cover the entire face frame, partial overlay doors cover some of it, and inset cabinet doors show the full face frame on the box.

Once you have made that decision, you can add or subtract from the opening size as needed. For example, if my cabinet box opening is 10” x 10” and I want a partial overlay of ½” all around, then I would need to add 1” to the width and height.

2 Finding Your Style of Kitchen Cabinet Doors

It is likely that you have some idea of the stylistic direction for your new kitchen design. If not, don’t worry. 3 Selecting a Cabinet Finish

Once you have decided on a stylistic direction for your kitchen design, then you will need to choose how you want them finished. By “finish,” we are referring to whether the doors and drawer fronts were painted, stained, or clear finished. At CabinetDoorMart, we offer painted doors, primed doors, unfinished doors, and thermofoil doors.

The aesthetic direction you plan to take your kitchen in will influence your decision in this step. For example, those who love traditional spaces should look into darker colors and stains. With stains, it is ideal to have an even and clear grain pattern, so that the stain will highlight the natural beauty of the wood.

In more contemporary designs, you might be interested in bright paints, and so you won’t have to worry about finding the best cuts of wood, as a paint grade option will suit your needs just fine. Alternatively, thermofoil doors arrive pre-finished and are available in a wide variety of trendy colors and textures.

4 Customize

After you have your profiles selected, you will need to decide if you want to have your doors bored for hinges. While we do not provide the hinges, we are able to bore your doors for compact concealed or European-style hinges for you. Alternatively, you can bore the doors on-site with supplies from the hardware store.

Last but not least, you have the option to have your door cut for glass. We are able to remove the entire center panel or install French lites. We can also provide the rubber stops that you will need to hold the glass in place. However, we do not provide any glass.
